Geneva seeking candidates for vacant city council seat
Geneva is seeking candidates to fill a 2nd Ward city council seat recently vacated by Michael Clements.
Residents who have lived in the 2nd Ward for at least a year and are interested in serving as an alderman are asked to submit a letter of interest by Aug. 13.
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and a registered voter; cannot have been convicted of any felony crime, bribery or perjury; and must not owe any overdue tax payments or other debt to the city, according to a news release.
Clements, who resigned from the position Monday, was appointed to the council in 2018 and later won a 4-year term in spring 2019.
His replacement will be appointed by Mayor Kevin Burns, with the advice and approval of the city council, to serve until the April 2021 election, officials said.
A letter of intent should be sent to the City Clerk, City of Geneva, Attn: 2nd Ward Alderman Vacancy, 22 S. First St., Geneva, IL 60134. A statement of economic interest also must be filed with the Kane County clerk's office.
