Elgin's Side Street Studio Arts accepts entries for 'Lockdown Renaissance' exhibit

Side Street Studio Arts in Elgin is now accepting submissions for "Lockdown Renaissance," an in-person exhibition highlighting the changes in identity during quarantine.

How has your identity (or the way you've perceived it) changed through the summer of social isolation and quarantine?

You may pair submissions symbolizing oneself before lockdown, and how one would like to be after lockdown.

Themes of social justice and mental health are encouraged, or any other path that relates to the title!

This exhibition will be hosted at Side Street Studio Arts, 15 Ziegler Court, from Friday, Aug. 7, to Sunday, Aug. 9.

Submit works in any form of visual art (ie. photography, painting, sculpture, etc.) or any written piece for a chance to win the grand prize.

Work will be judged based on technique, artistry, relevance to the title of the show, and creativity by a select panel of Elgin artists and advocates.

The grand prize is $100 cash and a $200 tuition voucher for any Side Street Studio Arts class.

There is a $5 submission fee; it is a one-time fee for up to 3 submissions. The fee will go toward the grand prize.

It is open to those entering seventh grade to having completed college within a year of submission date.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, July 27.

Submissions will be limited to three works or less. No late submissions will be accepted.

The drop off dates are Wednesday, July 29, to Sunday, Aug. 2.

Pickup will be Aug. 9-11.
