Cops: Aurora man caught with sawed-off shotgun, pills in traffic stop

A 27-year-old Aurora man faces several felony charges after a traffic stop early Friday on the city's near west side in which authorities say he was caught with a sawed-off shotgun and unprescribed amphetamine and Oxycodone pills.

Michael A. Bradley, of the 2400 block of Greenfield Court, is charged with felony armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance. He also was issued citations for speeding and open alcohol, according to Kane County court records, prosecutors and police.

Aurora Police spokesman Paris Lewbel said an officer saw a 2005 Chevy Suburban speeding north on Lake Street, north of Jericho, and made a traffic stop at 2:06 a.m. on Prairie Street and South Highland Drive.

While conducting a search of Bradley and the vehicle, police found a loaded and uncased sawed-off shotgun within Bradley's immediate reach, as well as amphetamine and Oxycodone pills that were not prescribed to Bradley, according to prosecutors.

Lewbel could not specify how many pills officers seized in the arrest.

Bradley is free after posting 10% of his $50,000 bail and next due in court Aug. 28.

If convicted of the most severe charge of armed violence, which is possession of a firearm in the commission of another felony, Bradley faces a sentence ranging from six to 30 years in prison with no chance of probation.
