Celebrate Park and Recreation Month by participating in Unplug Illinois Day!

This July, join the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA) for Park and Recreation Month, as we celebrate the selfless, passionate, and essential work of park and recreation professionals who provide services that are vital to a healthy Illinois! We will also be celebrating our 2nd Annual Unplug Illinois Day on July 11, which encourages everyone in Illinois to take a break from their devices and recreate.

Park and Recreation Month is an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). Learn more about how our local park and recreation professionals are confronting our most pressing health, environmental, and social challenges. NRPA encourages everyone to share their park and recreation story, and to honor their local park and recreation professionals who work behind the scenes and on the frontlines to provide high-quality programs in person and virtually, with the hashtag #WeAreParksAndRec.

Unplug Illinois Day is a great day to 'unplug' and appreciate the amenities available at your local park and recreation agency. We encourage Illinois residents to get outdoors, and safely enjoying trails, parks, and other outdoor spaces. Many Illinois park and recreation agencies have events scheduled to celebrate Unplug Illinois Day - some events include: 'Let's Go Fly a Kite' at the Bartlett Park District, Free Family Fishing at Hidden Lakes at the Bolingbrook Park District, a Family Campout at the Northbrook Park District, and Rock Island Parks & Recreation 'Pop-Up' in the Park.
