Beware power grabs on removing statues

I am an immigrant from Europe, who has been closer to Nazism and Communism, than anyone would want to be.

When I saw the pictures in the paper of official-looking people removing the statue of Christopher Columbus in St Louis, I could not help thinking back to the Nazi days: First they burned the books. Then they smashed the windows. Then they came to take the Jews. And now they come for me.

Watch out. The leaders of these kinds of things are out for power; redress of societal ills are very secondary. When they achieve power, you will be done with. Let us make sure that does not happen.
