NCH to host a virtual cancer survivor event

Northwest Community Healthcare invites all cancer survivors to join a virtual cancer survivor celebration at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 28. This event is free and can be joined at nch.org/virtualfield from anywhere internet access is available.

Dr. Stephen Nigh, NCH medical director of Oncology Services, will kick off the baseball-themed celebration welcoming all to the event.

"We host this celebration of survivorship every year to remind survivors and their caregivers they are not alone. Hearing what others have gone through and how they have overcome obstacles offers hope, despite not being able to meet in person," shares Dr. Nigh.

Mount Prospect native Mark Dopita will share his personal story of being diagnosed with head and neck cancer in 2017 and his path to recovery.

The online event also includes a guided imagery experience led by Diane Sullivan, a licensed counselor and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing practitioner.

Cancer survivors from all around the area have submitted photos of them doing something they love. The photos will be shared throughout the event.

According to Executive Director, Cancer Services Rhea Trbojevic, "Our commitment to our community for more than 60 years goes beyond the walls of our establishment and includes community education, community fundraisers and survivorship celebrations."
