"Over the past 39 years the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame Foundation has awarded over $635,000 in scholarships to student athletes," said former Elgin boys basketball coach Jim Harrington, vice president of the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame. "This year, even though the COVID-19 pandemic is going on, due to the generosity of our donors we were able to award $51,000 worth of scholarships to 28 high school seniors and two Elgin Community College student-athletes who are moving on to a four-year college.

"On behalf of the board of directors, we wish each and every one of these seniors the best of luck in all their future endeavors."

The scholarship money is raised through ESHOF membership fees and the annual ESHOF golf outing at Elgin Country Club.

The 2020 golf outing is tentatively scheduled for September 14.
