Aurora Advent church opens for in-person worship

Unlocking. That's how Rev. Matt Mull introduced his first live summer worship service Sunday at Aurora Advent Christian Church.

The church had been on lockdown since March due to restrictions on in-person gatherings. Sermons were posted on the church's home page and available by links to YouTube and Facebook.

Continuing his "Lockdown Lessons" sermon series, Rev. Mull preached on "Winning the War on Worry." Vocalists Beth Williams and Sharlene Thomason led congregational singing. Hope Grote provided piano accompaniment.

Worship bulletins were eliminated. Lyrics for hymns were displayed on an overhead screen behind the podium.

Rev. Mull replaced a children's church service with a children's sermon.

In a June 3 "Unlocking" email, the pastor said, "After much prayer and preparation, we have made the decision to resume live services this week. For those of you who are venturing out regularly, we believe we can hold church without more risk than your other activities."

Rev. Mull asked those not venturing out to continue to join the services online. "Either way - in person or online - it will be a joy to be together," he said.

Requirements for attendees included wearing face masks, sanitizing hands and social distancing six feet apart from others.

Future services will be held at 10 a.m. Sundays at the church, 905 N. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora. Admission and parking are free. Call (630) 896-1963 or visit AuroraAdvent.org.
