Train strikes car blocking downtown Elgin intersection

A freight train is blocking the intersection of Lawrence and Crystal avenues near downtown Elgin this morning after it struck a car.

Elgin police said there were no injuries in the collision, but the train remains stopped on the tracks as investigators determine what caused the crash.

The collision occurred just after 6:30 a.m., police officials reported.
