The importance of 'The Talk'

Yesterday's "Guest View" by the Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Edmond was excellent. In his article it mentions "The Talk" about how he was taught by his parents to safely act and respond whenever he might have been stopped by the police.

When our own kids - white suburban kids - were young I also had "The Talk" with them several times about what to do if they were ever stopped by the police for any reason. They should be absolutely polite to the officer and quickly follow his/her directions. They have always followed that direction - to do what is asked of them by any person of authority.

I just wish more adults (no matter what their race) had "The Talk" with their kids over the years. If that had been the case, there would be less civil unrest throughout our society.
