Clubhouse Chatter: Best sports city besides Chicago

What our Sports staff has to say while waiting for the games to resume.

Boston is the easy answer, but I'll go with Seattle. It was such a great NBA city, and it's quite a failure that the league hasn't replaced the Sonics.

Have to go with Pittsburgh, my hometown. The original "City of Champions," I'll always remember watching the Steelers win four Super Bowls in the 1970s and the Pirates chipping in with two World Series championships. The Penguins used to be a mess, but that all changed when they lucked out and were able to draft Mario Lemieux and later Sidney Crosby.

- Scot Gregor

This is a tough one. St. Louis couldn't keep its NFL team. Miami and Atlanta are notoriously fickle. Seattle lost its NBA team. Fans in Philadelphia, Boston and New York are too obnoxious. Dallas, Houston and San Antonio teams are wannabes. Detroit and Milwaukee teams are milquetoast. L.A.? No way. The Bay Area? Ha. That leaves Cleveland as a poor second by default.

- Orrin Schwarz

Maybe Boston is the correct answer with the combination of all their championships plus a passionate fan base, but I'll give a nod to Seattle. The 12th man for Seahawks games creates one of the best homefield advantages in the NFL. Seattle supports soccer and baseball well, plus the University of Washington. It's a shame they lost the Supersonics.

It's got to be New York, right? Native New Yorkers are beautiful. I once slammed a 7-iron into a pond ... and couldn't find it. My buddy says sheepishly with a giggle to the guy playing with us, "You probably haven't seen that before." Guy, dead serious, says, "I'm from New York. I've seen it all."

- Joe Aguilar

At this point, I'd label Boston as the best sports city. Tough to argue with the recent and traditional success of the Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics.
