Park district takes safety seriously in reopening

Beginning June 1, the Naperville Park District will begin to reopen some of its facilities and reintroduce programs in line with Phase 3 of the Governor's Restore Illinois Reopening Plan. The District adjusted its program parameters to adhere to social distancing guidelines and to limit group size to 10 people.

Examples of programs and facilities that are part of the Phase 3 reopening, include: Paddleboat Quarry; Disc golf at Knoch Knolls Park; Skate facilities; 95th Street Farmer's Market; Baseball and softball practices; Summer camps; Basketball and sand volleyball courts

Under the governor's revised Restore Illinois Plan for Phase 3, we also will offer some personal training and small group activities at Fort Hill Activity Center. Regarding Centennial Beach operations, the District is awaiting regulatory guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health, with a tentative opening date of June 20.

The recent legal action that the Park Board chose to pursue at its meeting on Thursday, May 14, is to seek a determination that the Park District may exercise its statutory authority to make decisions about the organization's essential functions.

We want our residents to understand that we take very seriously the health and safety of our participants. Suspending access to recreation negatively impacts our community's physical and mental wellness. It's time to return to recreation in Naperville and we look forward to welcoming you back.
