Kiwanis Club of Elgin partners with Salvation Army to buy diapers and baby wipes

To celebrate its 100th year of service to the children of the world and the community, the Kiwanis Club of Elgin has incorporated making monthly (service or monetary) contributions to Elgin-based child focused organizations. In April, the club contributed $500 to the Salvation Army for the purchase of diapers and baby wipes. These supplies are much needed and often overlooked during these times with the world and our community focused on the COVID-19 pandemic.

These monthly gifts, combined with the club's annual benevolent grants averaging over $20,000 per year, continue the club's efforts to support the needs of our youth while promoting Kiwanis International's and the local club's youth focused efforts.

The Elgin club, which was chartered in 1920 shortly after World War I, continues its tradition of supporting international efforts to eliminate iodine deficiency, maternal neonatal tetanus and conduct neuroscience research. It continues to support local organizations including the Elgin Boys and Girls Club, Community Crisis Center, Elgin Youth Leadership Academy, Family Services Association, Gail Borden Public Library, Well Child Center as well as many others.

In 2015, it partnered with the City of Elgin to relocate Kiwanis Park to its current National Street location to better serve local youth by providing a shelter and making other improvements.

As a result of these and many other efforts, the club has contributed well over one million dollars in addition to many hours of labor in support of local organizations all focused on serving children, our greatest resource.
