Can you get Cubs tickets is always No. 1. No. 2 would be who is the most favorite person I've interviewed (Answer? Former Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt).

Do you get to sit in the press box? That's always first. Do you get to go in the locker room? That's usually second. I think people see the press box as a luxury suite. It is most assuredly not. It's a box with press. And the locker room is just a place I work. On deadline, I'm there no longer than I have to be.

Covering the White Sox, most people ask if I work for the team. No, I work for the Daily Herald. I've also had to explain that, with free agency starting right after the World Series and trades always happening, MLB doesn't shut down when games aren't being played.

These days the question is, "What are you writing about when there are no games?" The answer is a lot of the feature stories we couldn't do before because we were too busy, plus occasional breaking news and items like this. While the games were being played, the most common question was, "How much fun is that?" Answer: It can be a lot of fun, but even more enjoyable than the games are the relationships developed on this job.
