Aurora to distribute free masks to the community Saturday

Chicago businessman Willie Wilson will join Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin on Saturday to distribute free masks to the community.

Through his foundation, Wilson donated 100,000 face masks to the city. The donation will include a large allotment of masks to nursing homes, assistant living facilities and senior residential locations. An initial distribution will be available Saturday for the general Aurora community.

"We are absolutely grateful to Dr. Wilson for his generous donation to Aurora," Irvin in a statement. "We know how important it is for everyone to wear masks and face coverings as we fight COVID-19 in our communities. We also know supplies are low while the demand is high. Dr. Wilson has helped to make sure those who need masks in Aurora can receive them."

Wilson and Irvin will welcome residents during the free mask giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon at the Aurora Transportation Center, 233 N. Broadway, in downtown Aurora.

Volunteers will distribute packaged masks on a first-come, first-served basis. No identification is necessary.
