Sad park policy

I lived in DuPage County for 63 of my 65 years, growing up 1 mile from the Lemont Road entrance to Waterfall Glen. My father spent his entire career working at Argonne. Two years ago I moved to Batavia, and now I am not allowed to use the walking trail anymore.

I visit my 96-year-old mother once a week, who still lives in our family home. Before my visits, I walk the 9.9-mile loop. I stopped by a couple of weeks ago on a rainy morning, four cars were in the parking lot. When I returned from the walk, I was greeted with a $40 parking ticket. Apparently the preserve is now only for current DuPage County residents.

It is bad enough that we are subject to house arrest due to our pandemic response, but to be fined for visiting a local forest preserve is insulting. I would gladly donate $40, but to be fined and in essence be told that I am not welcome anymore is just sad. I hope that this ridiculous policy is amended quickly.
