Aurora man charged with sexual abuse of minor

An Aurora man has been charged with enticing a minor, via a social media dating app, to meet him for sex.

A Kane County judge set bail Saturday at $275,000 for Ronald J. Lye, 49, of the 1600 block of Fairwood Place. If he posts bail, he is not to have any contact with people younger than 18, including relatives.

He is charged with 13 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and two counts of traveling to meet a minor.

Prosecutors say that multiple times since April 1, Lye drove to the minor's home, picked up the minor, drove the minor to Lye's home and had sexual contact with the victim.

Lye's next court appearance is May 15.

Aurora police and the Kane County Child Advocacy Center investigated the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the center at (630) 208-5160.

According to Kane County court records, Lye was charged twice in 1999 and once in 1998 with impersonating a police officer. In a September 1999 case, he also was charged with illegally detaining someone, illegal use of blue oscillating vehicle lights, and armed violence. Lye eventually pleaded guilty to false impersonation of a peace officer and use of blue lights.
