A grim reminder

Your editorial on the 50-year anniversary of the Kent State tragedy leaving four dead in Ohio provides a sobering lesson for us today, not to forget the capacity for violence in a time where the country is wracked by great division. Seeing pictures of armed protesters at the Michigan state capital, the killing of those students a half century ago serves as a grim reminder of how the introduction of guns in public places among crowds can be a recipe for disaster.

And when our president lends his support to those protesters, it gives pause to reflect on the consequences that can result from the blindness of government officials fueled by hatred of political foes.
