Not much reason to trust state leaders

The deadline for the Illinois legislature to act on a Fair Maps Amendment is May 3. The Illinois legislature has not met since early March and has canceled session days until May 5. Coincidence, I think not. Technology is available and has been used in other government bodies to keep the business of the people moving during this pandemic.

Soon, we will see and hear the legislative leaders of Illinois claim the Fair Maps Amendment was a victim of the coronavirus pandemic. The people of this state have wanted an end to gerrymandered districts for some time. The governor, if he is sincere, has endorsed this proposal. What is obvious, Illinois legislative leadership views this amendment as a threat to the stranglehold they have in the state of Illinois.

In the coming months, Gov. J.B. Pritzker will be ramping up the narrative that Illinois needs the "Fair Tax" amendment when voting in November. The claim is this "Fair Tax" will only affect the highest of income earners in Illinois. Call me skeptical, that is not where the money is to be made with this amendment, it is middle-income earners. I don't claim to be Nostradamus, but how long will it take before the state of Illinois' hand reaches deeper into the middle-income earner's pockets.

With the likely demise of the Fair Maps Amendment in this state, not certain how much I can trust the Illinois Legislature when it comes to my vote in the fall.
