Fix the pension system

Kudos to the Daily Herald for its "Our View" article in the April 22 Opinion section and also to Adam Schuster in his later "Guest view" article regarding the purpose for the government stimulus packages. No one questions that these government funds should help those in need, but certainly not to help maintain a broken, inequitable, not affordable, unsustainable and simply illogical pension system we are saddled with in Illinois. After decades of mismanagement, it is time to fix it. Essential services continue to suffer, as do the people these services help. Our politicians continue to kick the can down the road, but the can is full of holes, and trying to continue to maintain it is ludicrous.
