Mundelein Park District board welcomes new executive director

The Mundelein Park & Recreation District's Board of Commissioners has announced Ron Salski as the district's new executive director. Salski has served as executive director of Lake Bluff Park District for nearly 12 years and has 26 years of experience in the field of parks and recreation.

"Mundelein Park & Recreation District is very fortunate, excited, and proud to have someone of the caliber as Ron to succeed Ms. Margaret Resnick, an exceptional executive director for the past 13 years," Park District Board President Jesse Ortega said.

"The Mundelein community will continue to have the best park district managerial operations in the state with Ron as executive director."

Before the Lake Bluff Park District, Salski served five years as the director of parks & recreation services at the Wheeling Park District.

Earlier experience includes division director and superintendent of recreation at the Hoffman Estates Park District and superintendent of recreation and recreation supervisor at the Salt Creek Park District in Palatine.

Salski served as chairman of the board for the Illinois Park and Recreation Association, statewide association, team leader for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Sand Management Working Group, and treasurer of the Girls Feeder Basketball Advisory Committee.

He currently serves as co-chair of the Illinois Association of Park Districts Research Council and is a committee member of the IAPD/IPRA Joint Distinguished Accreditation Committee.

Salski and his family have been Mundelein residents for 12 years. His wife, Julie, is a special-education teacher in Arlington Heights; daughter Addison is a sophomore at Mundelein High School; daughter Annalie an eighth-grader at Fremont Middle School; and son Ashton is a fourth-grader at Fremont Intermediate School.

All have been involved in Mundelein Park & Recreation District through programs like the Mundelein School of Dance, sports programs, NovaCare Fitness Center and many special events.

In 2014, the Salskis established a family foundation called Big Dreams for Little Hearts, to purchase Automated External Defibrillators for children with heart conditions. They started the foundation after realizing the challenges with purchasing an AED.

"Since we moved here, my family has been significant supporters of Mundelein Park and Recreation District and the community," Salski said. "We frequently participate in park district programs and special events, visit the golf course, gym and fitness center and enjoy bike rides to its many parks.

"I am honored to be serving the community that I love and making a difference in what I believe is the best park district in the state of Illinois. It is my dream job, and I want to thank the board of commissioners for giving me this opportunity to lead and become even more integrated in the Mundelein Community," Salski said.

"The park district has an innovative, passionate, and dedicated staff, so I look forward to collaborating and working together to continue offering quality programs, facilities, parks and services."

Salski will transition with the current executive director, Margaret Resnick, who will be retiring at the end of the May.
