Kids' artwork contest for Elgin squad car
Youths ages 17 and under who live in Elgin can participate in an artwork contest to decorate a squad vehicle.
Half the vehicle will have decals depicting the winning drawing submitted by youths in the community, and the other half will be from the winner among officers' kids' submissions, Cmdr. Jim Bisceglie said.
The police department has decorated police cars for breast cancer, autism and LGBTQ+ awareness in the past; this contest is about supporting children during the COVID-19 pandemic, Bisceglie said. The artwork must show how the police and the community work together.
"We look at that as, 'We're all in this together' and we want to show we are one family," he said.
Previous squad vehicle decorations have been paid by sponsors, but they will be paid by police command staff members in this project, Bisceglie said. City funds are not used for such initiatives.
The coloring page can be downloaded at cityofelgin.org/police. The deadline to submit artwork to bisceglie_j@cityofelgin.org is 5 p.m. May 6.
If you can't print the coloring page at home, you can also contact Bisceglie at (847) 289-2602.
The contest winners will be selected by the police department and will be unveiled this summer.
