Stay-at-home orders and common sense

What's wrong with Debra J. Saunders, when she writes that Michigan Gov. Whitmer "assumes voters, including first responders, have no common sense"?

First Responders do have the knowledge to take precautions because of this virus. But as the philosopher wrote, "common sense isn't common." Many non-responders - look at pictures of the protesters - don't wear protective masks or gloves when they are shopping, protesting or in areas where there may be a large group of people.

Our state governors must take on responsibility to stop people from killing themselves and others. I don't like having to wear a mask or gloves when I am out, but these protections save lives, especially my own and my family's.

I understand the orders issued by our governors. Apparently, Ms. Saunders would prefer to listen to a president who is so concerned about himself and his reelection that he wants to open the states up so more people can become ill and perhaps die from the coronavirus.

Instead of writing a column attacking these stay-at-home orders, she should volunteer in a hospital to help save those suffering from the virus.
