The president's goal

This moment in time is historic. We are literally in the fight for our lives because of a virus that threatens the world's population. Our country is supposed to be the richest, smartest, most productive in the world, yet we watch as the tallies of deaths from this plague are rising daily.

How many people are literally walking around with this disease and don't realize that they are spreading it to friends, loved ones, and strangers? We don't know because we still do not have enough tests to determine who has this virus. Instead of press briefings to inform our country of any new developments regarding COVID-19, he uses them to praise himself, propagandize, stump for his re-election, refuse to answer legitimate questions posed by the press and to boldly and blatantly lie to the American public. Now, Donald Trump wants to start "opening up the economy," allowing more people to interact in public.

It seems that we have a president whose goal might be to eliminate the most vulnerable populations in this country: people of color, the poor, and those with added risk. He insists that his name be stamped on checks being issued by the federal government to help those most in need. He proudly talks about shutting down flights from China, but he did nothing with the time it bought us. Instead of heeding the warnings given and ramping up preparations for this pandemic, Trump wasted almost two months golfing, saying that this virus was a Democratic hoax, that it was under control or that it would just disappear.

Instead of putting his name on those checks, he should be acknowledging his role in the deaths of thousands of people who didn't need to die. He should put his name on every single death certificate.
