I-80 Mississippi bridge plan to be discussed in webinar

DIXON, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois Department of Transportation will hold a virtual public meeting Wednesday on plans for replacing a more than 50-year-old Mississippi River bridge in the Quad Cities area.

The meeting is being held online because of social distancing restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic. The public can participate via an online link during the webinar, which begins at 2 p.m.

IDOT officials will introduce a Planning and Environmental Linkages study of Interstate 80 over the Mississippi River. The plan is to replace the I-80 bridge in the Quad Cities, which opened in 1966.

The study will examine nine miles from the Interstate 88 interchange with I-80 to about the Middle Road interchange in Bettendorf, Iowa. It will evaluate safety, capacity and improved mobility and conclude with a report later this year.

Participants may click on an I-80 Mississippi River Bridge webinar link and register with their name and email address. There will be a video presentation and exhibits to review. IDOT officials will answer questions after the video.

The video and materials will be available after the meeting at www.I80MississippiBridge.com. Public comments received through May 6 will become part of the public meeting record.
