Contract outlines Naperville road resurfacing plans

Naperville City Council is set to approve a contract Tuesday that spells out where 13.3 miles of road work will take place this season.

The $5.3 million pact with R.W. Dunteman of Addison for street resurfacing is one chunk of the city's maintenance improvement program for 2020, budgeted at a total of $11.5 million.

Many streets on the North Central College campus and in the historic district east of downtown are included for resurfacing, as are Porter Avenue between Webster and Washington streets; Jackson Avenue between Mill and Eagle streets; and Eagle Street between Jackson and Jefferson avenues.

Other major streets covered in the contract include Naperville/Wheaton Road between Ridgeland and Ogden avenues; Benedetti Drive between Ogden Avenue and Royal St. George Drive; and Eagle Street between Ogden and 14th avenues.

In south Naperville, streets to be resurfaced include Book Road between 83rd and 87th streets; Wolf's Crossing Road between 91st and 95th streets; and 95th Street between Macrane Street and Wolf's Crossing Road.

The council already has approved a total of $2.1 million for crack filling, patching and microsurfacing as part of the program. A separate item slated for approval Tuesday allocates $241,960 for sidewalk removal and replacement.

The remainder of the program is expected to be covered in a separate contract for later approval, said Bill Novack, director of transportation, engineering and development.

Streets to be covered by a later contract include Washington between Ogden and 5th avenues; Commons Drive between Mill Street and Fox Bend Court; Conestoga Drive west of Mill Street; Olesen Drive between Calvin and Pineridge courts; Gartner Road between Magnolia Lane and Emerald Drive; and Hobson Mill Drive, along with all of the cul-de-sacs that connect to it.

Tuesday's meeting begins at 7 p.m. using the Zoom video conferencing platform.
