Today's Recommended Read: 'Sprinkle with Murder' by Jenn McKinlay
Isolation, am I right? You're sad because you burned through "Ozark" so quickly. Apparently you're not the only one learning to bake bread, and now flour is the new toilet paper at grocery stores. People on your work conference calls are starting to catch on that the pile of laundry behind you isn't just a funny Zoom background.
Time for a little escape: A quick, funny read with delightful characters, a mystery to solve and cupcakes! OK, and a murder, but trust me here.
"Sprinkle with Murder," the first installment of Jenn McKinlay's wildly popular Cupcake Bakery Mystery series, introduces BFFs Melanie Cooper and Angie DeLaura. The women have been friends since childhood and recently have realized their lifelong dream of opening a bakery, Fairytale Cupcakes, thanks to a little help from their other bestie, Tate Harper, who is planning his wedding.
Tate is engaged to Christie Stevens - a bit of a bridezilla - and of course, Fairytale Cupcakes will be providing their tasty cakes for the wedding. However, Christie is found dead a few days before the wedding, apparently poisoned by some cupcake samples.
Mel and Angie know they didn't poison Christie and, frankly, they also know poisoned cupcakes are bad for business. So they set out to do their own investigation to find the culprit, prove their innocence and eat a lot of cupcakes along the way. Bonus: Fancy cupcake recipes at the end of the book.
If you enjoy "Sprinkle with Murder," the 12th book in McKinlay's Cupcake Bakery Mystery series - "Pumpkin Spice Peril" - hits shelves (or maybe curbside pickup?) April 28.
