USPS deserves nation's protection
During this time of unparalleled confusion and sadness, the Social Contract of America is more important than ever before. As I look out my front window, I see my incredible mail deliverer. Her name is Carol and she is one of the kind and crucial people that binds our neighborhood, community and country together. We all know her and she knows us. She sees our families and has a connection to our lives. We love her.
This profound connection is what defines our humanness and it is a large part of what makes America so special. The USPS constitutes a basic element of our Social Contract; moreover, the right of Americans to receive their mail.
During the coronavirus crisis, this connection to the outside world is absolutely imperative. The United States government has a responsibility to defend the United States Postal Service.
When will our current leadership place human dignity, which comes through the jobs which carry the weight of society upon their shoulders, above the technological efficiency of markets and the universal privatization of trade, customer service, transportation and delivery services?
After all, without the USPS, monopolies such as Amazon would not be nearly as successful as they are today. They take advantage of our tremendous postal service by sticking the U.S.PS with the costs that they should be paying. They should take the honorable path of our great American small businesses that pay their fair share every day.
It is the solemn duty of American leadership to preserve the USPS. President Trump, Congress and the American people must stand up so as to avoid yet another descent into the complete dehumanization of our society.
We must not allow the USPS to die or an invaluable commodity, within the beating heart of our nation, will die alongside it.
