District 214 hires new associate superintendent for human resources
A Northwest Suburban High School District 214 principal has been promoted to associate superintendent for human resources for the district.
Kate Kraft, who has served for the past two years as principal of District 214's Specialized Schools, will officially start her new role July 1. Her $172,000 contract was approved by the school board Thursday night.
Kraft previously spent five years as director of specialized programs, and from 2009 through 2013, was an associate principal at Wheeling and Elk Grove high schools. She came to District 214 from Grayslake North, where she was an associate principal. Earlier in her career, she taught English and served as student activities director at Deerfield High School.
She replaces Kurt Laakso, who abruptly resigned last month for personal reasons after nearly two decades in the district. He oversaw human resources starting in 2012, and was previously principal at Prospect and a teacher at Elk Grove.
