ID crucial to mail-in voting

Your Sunday editorial about investigating mail-in voting during a continuation of the COVID-19 situation deserves some comments. First of all, most states allowing absentee ballots have an ID requirement, and the only way to avoid massive voter fraud is the strict and universal enforcement of that requirement. One of the political parties has labeled that requirement as racial discrimination despite the fact that everyone needs an ID on a daily basis for virtually dozens of activities.

We don't hear it referred to that way when someone boards an airplane or cashes a personal check. Voting is a franchise belonging to United States citizens, and every vote counted must be cast by a person who is who he says he is and has a government-issued ID to that effect.
