Police: Meeting arranged online turns into robbery in Naperville

A man showed up Wednesday in Naperville to what he thought was a meeting to film a video, but ended up getting robbed, authorities said Thursday.

Police are investigating the armed robbery that took place about 4:55 p.m. on the 700 block of Royal St. George Drive, when they said the man arrived for a filming session that had been arranged on social media.

When the man arrived, the suspect showed a handgun and demanded property from him, police said in a news release.

Cmdr. Mike Son said the suspect stole "equipment that the victim brought to the meeting," then drove away in a dark-colored car heading south on Royal St. George Drive.

The victim was not injured.

Police describe the suspect as a black man in his 20s wearing blue jeans and a medical mask over his face.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call investigators at (630) 420-6666.
