A moral imperative

No one can yell "fire" in a movie theater absent a fire because the stampede of moviegoers to the exits would cause injuries and even deaths. In a similar way, journalists are obligated to communicate the truth as the facts are generally understood and proven. It's a moral imperative. TV, radio, and print and social media are public entities whose behavior must be above reproach and for the common good.
