Clubhouse Chatter: Should college athletes get paid?
What our Sports staff has to say while waiting for the games to resume.
If college athletes are getting a full scholarship, they are getting paid. I have a problem, however, if a university sells an athlete's jersey and profits from it. And if someone wants to pay a college athlete for his or her autograph, let the athlete pocket the money.

If schools were just trying to break even and offer as many sports as they could, that would be one thing. But people are making millions off college sports. It's absurd and unethical that they don't get paid.

Absolutely yes, but with strict guidelines. While the No. 1 job of a college athlete should be to earn a degree, their time is dominated by playing their chosen sport. It becomes their job and they should be compensated. But that compensation would need to be closely monitored and controlled.

I'm on the fence, but one thing's definite: It's not right that so many other people make so much money off the achievements of college athletes, specifically football and men's basketball players. A part of me still believes a college scholarship is tremendous payment, but then you look at the billions of dollars surrounding football bowl games and the NCAA basketball tournament. Kind of tough to argue the athletes don't deserve a piece of that.

With the ridiculously high price it costs to go to college, a full scholarship is the proper payment for most athletes. The big-time performers should get paid for use of their name, image and likeness.
