Making it harder to fight gerrymandering
I wish to strongly support the position taken by the Daily Herald regarding gerrymandering. I have been collecting signatures on the petition being distributed by Fair Maps.
It was very easy to get people to sign - just the mention of the word "gerrymandering" caused people to grab the pen from my hand.
The problem is that I cannot send the petitions in because it required that each copy be notarized. And since the notary is required to witness my signature it requires a face to face meeting.
Although I understand the reason for this it does seem a rather unnecessary step in the days of COVID-19. And as you point out, none of the existing politicians want to do anything to expedite the process.
