What our Sports staff has to say while waiting for the games to resume.
A teacher and coach. Both of my parents are teachers, and I used to make my younger brothers play school with me when we were kids. I was the teacher, of course. (And they were very good sports!) I think I'd be a great English or journalism teacher and an excellent basketball coach, since I played in high school and at the Division I level at Northwestern. I also spent 10 years coaching feeder basketball, and my daughter was on most of my teams.

I initially considered a career as a park ranger or parks employee. I have a strong yearning toward nature, and though I'm not a true "outdoorsman" I have a great affinity toward the outdoors. I've also enjoyed working in restaurants because of the staff camaraderie and satisfying customers.

Rocket scientist, maybe. Definitely not brain surgeon. Hate hospitals. I'd probably still be a vendor. At least I was good at that.
- Barry Rozner
Teacher. I grew up in a family of educators and thought long and hard about that career. Sportswriting was just too much fun.
- John Lemon
If I weren't a sports writer, without question I'd be a teacher. My experience covering prep sports the last three decades has given me a greater appreciation for high school student-athletes. Because of that appreciation I even earned my teaching certification at North Central College. There are a bunch of smart kids out there, though. Not sure I could keep up with them!
