Clubhouse Chatter: Which pro sport would you have played?
What our Sports staff has to say while waiting for the games to resume.
Hockey, of course. But after losing four teeth and breaking just about every bone there is to break over 40 years, golf seems like it would have been the smarter sport to play.

Basketball. And I almost did play professionally overseas after I graduated from Northwestern (there was no WNBA back then). I was working with an agent and everything. But pro ball in Europe back then was much different from what it is now, much riskier ... players not getting paid, etc. I got a job right out of college and decided to go the safe route and I don't necessarily regret that, but I do often wonder what would have happened had I chosen to play overseas, even for just one season.

I was an All-Star and traveling team pitcher and shortstop in Little League, loved playing hockey at a young age, but if I had to pick one sport it'd be playing on the PGA Tour. I started playing golf with my dad in my late teens, am still not very good, but love the green grass, the flowers and the outdoors. If you've ever been to a Tour event, you've probably envisioned what it would be like inside the ropes. Talk about the ultimate day job.

I still play hockey (rat ice), and the naive 10-year-old in me still thinks if I can improve my skating, get stronger and commit myself, I can be good someday. I conveniently ignore the graying hair and whiskers, 4 knee surgeries, 1 hip surgery and birth certificate. I just love the game. Someday, you watch, you're going to hear Harvey Wittenberg announce over the PA, "Blackhawk goal, his 40th of the season, scored by No. 7, Joe Aguilar." Thanks for cheering.

Me? A professional athlete? That's a stretch. But if I could have played one sport, it'd definitely be baseball. Maybe because it's the only sport I was decent at as a child. There's something a little sterile about the atmospheres in other sports like basketball or hockey. But the thought of playing at a place like Wrigley Field? Sounds like heaven to me.
