Salsa Verde closing Batavia location

The Salsa Verde restaurant in Batavia is closing at the end of business today after a four-year run.

Owner Carlos Arechiga stressed that the decision is unrelated to the coronavirus-related closure order of all restaurants in the state.

"It was just numbers in the end," he said.

The Batavia location didn't have enough business to merit renewing its lease, he said.

The restaurant opened at 107 N. Batavia Ave. in 2016. Before that, the building briefly housed a Hardee's restaurant.

And before Hardee's, a Burger King was there for 25 years. Burger King closed in 2013, citing low sales.

Arechiga said he has been told the landlord already has lined up another tenant, a Mexican-food restaurant.

Salsa Verde also has locations in Yorkville, Oswego, St. Charles and Indianapolis.
