Elmhurst Eagles football, cheer plan for another banner year

The Elmhurst Eagles football and cheer program had a banner turnout Wednesday, March 11, just before the mandated school closures and stay-at-home call.

Since 1964, the Elmhurst Eagles football and cheer have been the oldest, winningest program in the area.

In 2019, two Elmhurst Eagles teams were Bill George Youth Football League Super Bowl champs and three teams were State Cheer Champions.

The Elmhurst Eagles are an established youth sports organization with a focus on safety, community and development.

On March 11, they had more than 200 families registering on-site at York High School for the 2020 season.

Though there were many unknown variables, the folks in Elmhurst came out in droves to be a part of things.

Once team selection is completed, the teams will practice/train on their own, learning football fundamentals and plays in a structured and consistent system.

From the start of the season until school and games start in August, teams typically practice 4-5 times weekly, depending on age and coach. When school begins, practices usually are scaled back to 3-4 practices per week, team dependent.
