Millions need protections in ACA

This week marks the 10th anniversary that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law. The ACA created protections for every American, including those with pre-existing conditions. It also provided health care coverage to millions of Americans.

Before the ACA, people faced lifetime caps and were denied coverage for having a pre-existing condition. Thanks to the ACA, my wife and I could live without the fear of being uninsured. However, these protections and our peace of mind can soon be overturned due to the Trump administration.

Despite promises to protect people with pre-existing conditions, his administration has been dismantling the ACA, without a replacement plan.

I am frustrated that the Trump administration is fighting the ACA in the courts. Legal experts have called the lawsuit "ludicrous," but if it succeeds, 135 million Americans with pre-existing conditions could lose access to health care, according to the Center for American Progress.

When the ACA was enacted, our lives changed for the better. I urge our elected officials to protect our care.
