Finding the positives in a time of crisis

I like to look for "silver linings" as events occur in our lives that are tragic, unfortunate or just inconvenient. The current COVID-19 crisis has a few of such "linings."

One positive that comes from this crisis is that despite the confused and confusing leadership from our President, many other leaders have stepped up to the plate. Governors, mayors, school superintendents, sports commissioners, college presidents and business owners have made informed decisions with clarity and resolve. The leadership vacuum at the top has been filled by leaders looking out for our best interests.

Another positive is that the doctors, nurses and other health professionals throughout the country have also stepped up to the plate during this crisis, skillfully and with care and dedication applying their time, effort and expertise to make our health needs their top priority. Our first responders are responding with their best efforts.

The last positive I would mention in this brief letter is that so many of us are taking better care of ourselves as well as others, paying attention to and not ignoring the advice of health professionals and experts. Personal leadership.

We will get through this. Thankfully, America has many leaders unafraid to lead.
