District 54 seeks volunteers for advisory committees

While it may feel like most activity in the world has ground to a halt, planning for the return of more normal times is going on in Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54.

The district is seeking community volunteers to serve on two advisory committees during the 2020-21 school year.

The District Citizens Advisory Committee is composed of staff members, parents, community members, representatives of other government agencies and business organizations. It's intended to increase communication and provide citizen involvement with the district.

Among members' responsibilities is attending meetings at 9 a.m. the second Thursday of each month during the school year.

The Advisory Council for District Initiatives is a different panel that provides strategic planning for the district, encourages new ideas and provides a framework to realize them.

Members of this group are asked to commit for three years to attend meetings on an as-needed basis, share information with the community and assist others in developing instructional initiatives.

Applications are available at the District 54 website, sd54.org/. Interested persons should complete an application online or print and mail it by May 14 to the Superintendent/Board of Education Office, School District 54, 524 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg, IL 60194.

Since the district office is closed for the time being, submitting the online application is preferred.

The board of education will review the applications and make appointments at a public meeting after the due date.
