Chicago Botanic Garden closes until April 30 because of coronavirus
The Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe has closed through Thursday, April 30.
The move follows recommendations of federal, state and county officials on the novel coronavirus health crisis.
The closure includes all gardens and grounds, the Visitor Center and other buildings.
“The health and safety of our community of visitors, staff, and volunteers — as well as our community at large — remains our top priority,” said Chicago Botanic Garden public relations manager Julie McCaffrey in a statement. “We weighed this matter carefully and do not feel confident that we can adequately limit gatherings to 10 or fewer people, as recommended by federal authorities.”
All programs, classes and events scheduled through April 30 are canceled. Staff will continue to care for the 2.6 million plants across the 385-acre site.
