CHIP IN Batavia reschedules prom giveaway to April 11
CHIP IN Batavia has rescheduled its seventh annual Prom Dress Giveaway, slated for March 21, to Saturday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Batavia Public Library. Closer to the date, check chipinbatavia.org or www.facebook.com/chipinbatavia/ for updates to make sure the event is on for April 11.
There will be almost 500 dresses on display, along with private changing areas, and lots of purses, shoes and accessories to choose from.
There will be a seamstress on hand, to help with alterations. All dresses will be given away free to any girl from any school district, regardless of need. CHIP IN Batavia's mission is to help students in need, but to make it simple and due to the prohibitive cost of prom, they want to offer all girls one free dress. Monetary donations are appreciated and welcome and will be used to help pay for tuxedo rentals and prom tickets for Batavia students.
The Batavia Public Library is located at 10 S. Batavia Ave. CHIP IN Batavia encourages girls to come with friends or family.
As the library is currently closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, CHIP IN Batavia is no longer accepting donated prom dresses and accessories.
Last year, CHIP IN gave away over 300 dresses to students from Batavia, Mooseheart, St. Charles, Geneva, Elgin, Aurora, Rosary, Jacobs, North Central College, Yorkville, Chicago, Naperville and more. Over 300 more dresses were given to Rotolo Middle School for the eighth-grade dinner dance, and to the Batavia Interfaith Clothes Closet, Wayside Ministries, East Aurora High School, My Daughters Dress Prom Drive, and All Dressed Up.
CHIP IN Batavia (Community Helpers Impacting People in Need) is a restricted fund within the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Its mission is to help students in need, who are homeless or in transitional housing, or on free/reduced lunch.
