Elgin rec facilities closed due to COVID-19

The city of Elgin closed all its recreation facilities starting today in an effort to slow the spread of the new coronavirus.

The closures include the Edward Schock Centre of Elgin, the Eastside Recreation Center and the city's three golf courses at Bowes Creek Country Club, the Highlands of Elgin and Wing Park.

All programs at Hawthorne Hill Nature Center have been canceled, but the trails remain open from dawn to dusk.

The city tentatively expects to reopen facilities April 1, unless further closures are needed.
