Williams Street Rep announces 'Matilda,' 'Patsy Cline' musical part of upcoming season

Musicals about an extraordinary girl and an unexpected friendship, as well as a comedy about a deity attempting to clear up misconceptions, are among the shows Williams Street Repertory will produce during its 2020-21 season in Crystal Lake.

The season, announced this week, begins June 19 with "An Act of God," David Javerbaum's play in which God takes on an everyman's corporeal form to correct mankind's misconceptions about Him.

That's followed on July 31 with a revival of "Always ... Patsy Cline," about the friendship between the country music star and fan Louise Seger, whose correspondence with the singer inspired creator Ted Swindley's two-hander musical.

The season concludes with "Matilda The Musical," which begins Sept. 25. Adapted by writer Dennis Kelly and composer/lyricist Tim Minchin from Roald Dahl's children's book, the show centers on a book-loving, specially empowered young Matilda. Burdened with crass, uncaring parents and forced to attend a school run by a tyrannical headmistress, Matilda finds comfort in a caring teacher and a friendly librarian.

Performances take place at the Raue Center for the Arts, 26 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake.

Williams Street Repertory individual tickets are $27.65 for members of the Raue Center and $49.50 for nonmembers. Raue Center memberships start at $50.
