NIU football inks 3-game deal with Missouri, starting in 2028
Northern Illinois University announced Friday the addition of a trio of football games against Missouri, including a 2029 home game.
NIU will play the Tigers in Columbia Sept. 30, 2028, and Sept. 4, 2032; NIU hosts Missouri Sept. 29, 2029.
Athletic Director Sean Frazier said the hope is the home game stays in DeKalb.
Past high-profile games have been moved to Soldier Field, including contests against Wisconsin and Iowa.
"You put a quality opponent like we've had in the past and this one is included, you want the fans to show up at Huskie Stadium," Frazier said.
The 2028 meeting will be the first time the teams have faced each other.
"They fit in the regional footprint of where our fans can drive, very similar to Iowa," Frazier said.
Over the course of the contract, NIU is slated to receive a net of $750,000. The buyout to get out of any of the three games is $1 million.
In addition to the Missouri games, NIU has finalized a home-and-home series versus New Mexico State in 2024 and 2027. The Huskies will play in Las Cruces Sept. 14, 2024, and hosts the Aggies Sept. 11, 2027.
