Democrats must present ideas for better country

Picture this: It's the evening of November 8, 2016, and Donald John Trump wins the swing states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. A short time later, it happens: Donald John Trump, the underdog of the 2016 race, is projected to be the next president of the United States. At that moment, disbelief had swept among the nation. Democrats were in shock, and Republicans were an ecstatic joy. No media outlets had predicted Trump's upset victory.

Fast forward four years, and we are nearing a near-identical predicament. Many of the Democrats I know claim that Trump will only be a one-term president. However, every time I turn on the TV to watch the debates, I scratch my head in confusion. Instead of watching a civil, informative conversation among Democrats, I see a full-on circus, with candidates swinging and jumping on one other and tearing themselves to shreds.

The Democratic debates are complete anarchy, making all Democratic candidates seem unpresidential and unelectable. If the Democrats want to win back the presidency in 2020, they must show voters their ideas and ability to reason, not their attack ads and pride to ignore the other side.
