'Faith & Film Fridays' starts March 6 at West Dundee church

During Lent, St. James Episcopal Church, 516 Washington St. in West Dundee, is offering "Faith & Film Fridays" at 7 p.m.

Each film explores a challenge individuals and families face daily. They will ask the question, "What is our response as followers of Jesus to these needs?"

A simple supper of soup and salad will be served at 6:30 p.m. There is a $5 suggested donation. Call (847) 426-5612 to reserve your space.

On March 6, the 2010 film "Temple Grandin," starring Claire Danes, will be the first offering. It is a biographical drama film about the author of "Thinking in Pictures: My Life With Autism," who is also a professor of animal science at Colorado State University and a consultant to the livestock industry on animal behavior.

She became an unlikely hero to America's cattle industry and to autistic people everywhere.

On March 13, it will be "Anonymous People," a 2013 feature documentary film about the 23.5 million Americans living with long-term recovery from alcohol and other drug addictions.

Deeply entrenched social stigma and mass participation in widely successful anonymous 12-step groups have kept recover voices silent and faces hidden for decades. Courageous addiction recovery advocates are starting to come out of the shadows to tell their stories.

On March 20, it will be the 2007 drama film "Music Within," starring Ron Livingston. It is the true story of veteran Richard Pimentel, who uses his war disability as an inspiration to help organize the Americans with Disabilities Act.

On March 27, it will be the 2019 drama film "Still Alice," starring Julianne Moore. Alice Howland, happily married with three grown children, is a renowned linguistics professor who starts to forget words. When she receives a diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer's disease, Alice and her family find their family bonds tested.
