Girls soccer: Elk Grove tabs Whittinghill as new head coach

Elk Grove High School has named Gabrielle Whittinghill as the school's new head girls Soccer coach.

Coach Whittinghill comes from Maine South where she was the JV coach and had a record of 41-7-5 in her last three seasons there. She was also a student at Maine South where her team made two state appearances and she was named to the all-conference and all-sectional teams. In addition to her teaching and coaching responsibilities, she also plays for the Chicago City, a women's premier soccer league team, where she is the captain, starting forward, and leading goal scorer.

Whittinghill says she is ready to get started.

"I am looking forward to being the head coach of the girls soccer program at Elk Grove High School," she said. "I am most excited about working with a dedicated group of athletes to create a new identity for what it means to be an Elk Grove girls soccer player. We have a great group of athletes and I am looking forward to continuing to build the program and sharing my passion for the game with them."

Jackie Randall, Elk Grove's girls athletic director, is eager for Whittinghill's start.

"I am excited for Whittinghill's coaching and playing experience to significantly impact our girls soccer program," Randall said. "As a longtime freshman and JV coach for a strong CSL soccer program, in addition to a lifelong soccer player, Whittinghill brings the best of both worlds. I am grateful to have such a strong female role model at the helm of one of the largest programs at Elk Grove. She will be impacting our student-athletes on the field and more importantly in life."
