Learn about controlled burning with Izaak Walton League March 3
On Tuesday, March 3, the Elgin Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America will offer a program about the history, current methods and reasoning of controlled burning in the Kane Country Forest Preserves.
Senior Restoration Technician Jason Johnson will lead the discussion.
The program will begin at 7 p.m. at the Hanover Township Izaak Walton Center, 899 Jay St., six blocks east of Route 25 in Elgin.
Jason Johnson is a Senior Restoration Technician with the Forest Preserve District of Kane County and has worked for the district for 21 years.
Among his other duties in caring for the counties natural areas Jason has a passion for prescribed fire. He became a qualified burn boss for the district in 2004 and is an Illinois Certified Prescribed Burn Manager.
In addition to participating in over 300 fires in his career Jason has helped train many district burn crew members and enjoys teaching others about the benefits of putting fire back onto our native landscape.
